We can achieve so much if we are united and share a common goal. The months of online classes and physical separation only fuelled my desire to connect with others and share my love of flamenco with them. I began running flamenco classes online and connecting with wonderful humans I may not have come across otherwise. But not just for myself, for my community. I decided I needed to fight for Flamencollab, go within and ask myself what was really important. When our paths crossed again years later back in Melbourne, we reminisced about our time in Spain, the sights the smells, the culture, the vibrancy! A flame was ignited and we set about preparing a line-up of gigs, hoping to share that distinct Andalusian atmosphere with the Australian public.įast forward to the end of 2020 and Flamencollab had made a complete transformation! The arrival of the Coronavirus epidemic threw a spanner in the works as all gigs we had booked for the year were cancelled. We'd met in 2014, whilst studying full-time flamenco dance at Fundacion Cristina Heeren in Sevilla, and formed a tight bond. Flamencollab was born in the beginning of 2019, when myself and dancer, Jessica MacCallum-Cruz, decided to create a performance group. "We" is me, Cherie Morgan, and all of you, students past, present and future. With our hard work in the studio, we are also rewarded with a positive sense of accomplishment. The studio is a place where we can leave our day-to-day worries behind and connect with our inner flamenca/o! We support and encourage eachother, bringing our smiles, positive energy and sense of fun to class. Let's spread our passion and love of flamenco with our Melbourne audience! On stage is where we learn the most, it is where we put our many hours in the studio to practical use, building confidence in ourselves as performers and camaraderie amongst our peers. ![]() We strive to lift eachother up and look out for one another.įlamenco is such an intricate and complicated art form that we can't possibly learn it all from one source!
